SCRIPTURE: But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. Deuteronomy 28:15-16
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Just as blessings overtake the obedient, curses will overtake those who live in sin and disobedience.
It has been established that iniquity affects the welfare of people. Unrighteousness affects the welfare of the unrighteous.
Now, how does unrighteousness affect the welfare of the unrighteous?
Unrighteousness provokes the curse and neutralizes the blessing. Disobedience, lack of financial integrity, and sin open the door for curses, thereby making the blessing of God inaccessible.
Deuteronomy 28:1-3 says:
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.
The Scripture makes it clear that if we diligently obey the commandments of God and live according to His Word, blessings will come upon us and overtake us. These blessings are so comprehensive that they affect our families, businesses, health, and every other area of our life.
However, the same applies to curses when we choose disobedience. Deuteronomy. 28:15-16 warns: But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee. Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.
This means that just as blessings overtake the obedient, curses will overtake those who live in sin and disobedience.
For instance, diverting funds or taking what does not belong to one invokes curses. Such actions disconnect a person from God’s blessing and attract misfortune.
Beloved, it is profitable to embrace integrity and righteousness. The lifestyle of integrity and righteousness attracts unusual divine favour.
REMEMBER THIS: Just as blessings overtake the obedient, curses will overtake those who live in sin and disobedience.
ASSIGNMENT:
1. Make up your mind to embrace the blessings of God by living in righteousness and obedience.
2. Avoid the curses of sin and disobedience by turning away completely from sin and disobedience.
